A three-day-old baby girl, who had been allegedly stolen from the MKCG Medical College Hospital here on Saturday, was rescued by police from Konisi village in the Golanthara area in Ganjam district later in night.
The baby was then handed over to her parents. A woman, Kuni Pradhan, has been detained at the Baidyanathpur police station for questioning in connection with the incident. One Jyoti Nahak of R Narayanpur village in the Kabisuryanagar area in the district had delivered the baby at the hospital three days ago. On Saturday, the baby was taken to the outdoor by her grandmother for immunisation, during which a woman, identifying herself as a volunteer working in the hospital, took the baby and disappeared.
A ‘missing’ complaint was lodged by the parents of the infant with the Baidyanathpur police in this regard.
“After three years of marriage, Kuni Pradhan had no children. To have a child in her house, she made a plan and took away the baby from its grandmother Gurubari Nahak from the ticket counter,” said ASP Santanu Das and others at a Press conference held on Sunday.
