In an unusual incident, a newborn boy was found unclaimed at a passenger restroom at Teramaili Chhak in the Joranda area in Dhenkanal district in wee hours of Wednesday.
Some villagers rescued the child and handed over him to an Anganwadi Worker. Later, a team of Child Line officials took the baby from the Anganwadi Worker and admitted him to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Natima. The health condition of the baby was stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, police have begun an inquiry to find out why and who abandoned the baby in the place.
“The baby will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that will pass an order for rehabilitation of the newborn. Most probably, he will be kept at a Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA),” said child line official Mandakini Rout.
