The new ‘Nataala’ (nine-storied) building housing most of the offices of Head of Departments is likely to be inaugurated here soon.

The construction work of the building that was expected to be completed in April this year may take another two months for completion and is likely to be opened either by June-end or first week in July, said Works Department sources.

Meanwhile, around 15 departments have urged the General Administration (GA) Department to acc accommodate their offices to the new building.

However, a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has decided not to relocate the offices already operating in the existing Nataala building. As per the decision, the departments in the State Secretariat that could not be functional properly due to lack of infrastructure will be shifted to the new building.

Notably, the present Nataala structure located just behind the State legislative Assembly and the State Secretariat houses most of the offices of the Heads of Departments.

The Government had planned to construct another Nataala building in 2014 in view of the shortage of space for operation of most of departments at the State Secretariat.

Following tender-related dispute, the l&T was finally given the work order for construction of the proposed new building at a cost of Rs 124 crore in an area of three acres in 2016 in front of the Nirman Soudh. Although the new building was to be ready in April this year, the construction work could not be completed within the schedule.
