Naveen dared to order CAG audit of power discoms

The Kalinga Sena on Thursday demanded that the accounts of the three Reliance Power-owned distribution companies SOUTHCO, WESCO and NESCO be audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in order to maintain transparency.

Kalinga Sena supremo Hemant Rath told reporters that though it is a fact that the power distribution companies do not receive any funds from the Government, but an audit is necessary to bring the fact in power sectors to limelight.

“So far, these power distribution companies have not paid `5,000 crore to the Gridco which was pending since last few years. While business losses of power distribution companies in other States including Delhi have decreased from 60 per cent to 17 per cent, in Odihsa it still stands at 40 per cent, which needs to be investigated,” said Rath.

He also alleged that power cuts are rampant in both urban and rural areas in the State, raising questions about the reforms in the power sector.

He dared Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to order a special audit into the accounts of power distribution companies by the CAG for the sake of his clean image.
