Nalco disinvestment anti-people: INTUC

PNS

The INTUC has strongly condemned the Centre’s decision to disinvest 10 per cent stake in the National Aluminium Corporation (Naclo). INTUC State president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia said the decision of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre to disinvest in various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), especially from the Nalco, the sole profit-making Navaratna company in Odisha, is totally absurd that hurts the sentiments and interests of the people of the State.

While stake of any PSU company should not be below 75 per cent, the decision of a 10-per cent disinvestment in the Nalco would bring down its stake to 70.93 per cent, said Khuntia.

Protesting against the decision, the INTUC-allied organisation Nalco Sramik Congress Union and Nalco Employees’ Association staged a demonstration in front of the ED Office in Angul on Wednesday. Besides, the INTUC will stage demonstrations before Naclo plants and corporate offices beginning from Thursday.

The INTUC would launch a mass movement across the State if the NDA Government does not roll back its decision on disinvestment of the Nalco’s stake, said INTUC State general secretary Kishore Jena.
