The Railway Budget 2014-15 is not much encouraging for Odisha, especially the northern region of the State, Baleswar MP Rabindra Kumar Jena said in his reaction to the Budget.
He said northern districts like Baleswar, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak did not get desired allocation in the Railway budget.
“I had raised 77 demands for the northern Odisha. Barring the extension of Howrah-Belda Memo train upto Jaleswar, most of the demands have been overlooked, causing disappointment among the people,” Jena said.
He said his demands for merger of the Baleswar and Mayurbhanj sections of railway in the East Coast Railway (ECR), introduction of a passenger train to Nilagiri, allocation of funds for Digha-Jaleswar rail route and a rail corridor that would have provided an alternative rail connectivity linking the Chennai-Howrah route with the Howrah-Tata Nagar line by shortening a distance of more than 100 km have been avoided.
Besides, proposal of modernisation of the Baleswar railway station has also been ignored, he said.
