PNS

A Surat returnee died under mysterious circumstances at a quarantine centre under Nuagaon block of Nayagarh district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Brajakrushna Behera, a resident of Jaypur village.

Reports said the 31-year-old Behera was kept under quarantine at Bahadajhola locality in the district after his arrival from Surat on May 13, as per the Government’s guidelines for returnees.

Though the reason behind his death was yet to be ascertained, questions have cropped up about the management of quarantine centres set up for the migrants. This is the first death in a Temporary Medical Centre in the district.

Several other death of returnees at quarantine centres have come to fore in a past few days from different parts of the State.

Recently, a Tamil Nadu returnee was found hanging from a tree on premises of a quarantine centre in Mayurbhanj district. A few days ago, a 40-year-old man who had returned from Surat died at a quarantine centre in Polasara area of Ganjam district.
