Mystery shrouds IFS officer's death

RAJKUMAR SHARMA

Though family members claimed that IFS officer Vijay Bahadur Singh died after falling from a running train at the Belpahar railway station on Wednesday night, the incident has triggered suspicions as the officer had a Vyapam link and the autopsy report has

revealed that he had received serious injuries on his head and other parts of his body before his death.

An officer of 1978 batch, Singh had worked in many higher capacities under the Madhya Pradesh Government. Two years back, he had

retired as Additional Chief Conservator of Forests at Bhopal (MP).

Sources said he was under the CBI scanner as he was allegedly involved in the multi-crore Vyapam scam. He had mental stress.

According to information, he was returning home by the Puri-Jodhpur Express after attending a 1978-batch IFS officers’ conference held at Bhubaneswar last week when he fell from the running train at the Belpahar railway station and died.

Although, no solid evidence was found on his death, some speculate that the officer, being under mental strain, might have committed suicide to escape from the Vyapam scam. However, the real cause of his death can be ascertained after detailed investigations.

Notably, the family members who were making journey with Singh claimed that he fell from the running train

while closing the door of the AC coach. They blamed Railways’ negligence for the officer’s death.
