The Covid-19 guidelines were thrown to wind when a rally of hundreds of supporters of the four accused in the Sundarpada murder case held at Jharpada here on Sunday night following the release of the accused on bail from the Jharpada jail.

The accused hugged their supporters and waved to them from an open jeep. The procession continued for four km. Most of the participants of the rally were without masks and all flouted the social distancing norm even though the rally was held barely a few meters from the Airfield police station.

In his reaction, Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Das said, “Action will be taken in this regard if we get the evidence.” Meanwhile, family members of Amaresh Nayak of Sundarpada who was beaten to death on Diwali night last year alleged that due to flaws in the chargesheet filed by police, the High Court granted bail to the accused. The family members said they have been getting anonymous phone calls issuing threats to them.
