Mother-in-law held for dowry torture

PNS

The Tamondo police on Wednesday arrested and forwarded to court the mother-in-law of Sushree Sangita Bastia, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Kalinga Nagar of the capital city on Monday night.

Police have found evidence of dowry torture against Sushree’s mother-in-law.

Sushree’s husband Praveen Nayak and father-in-law are absconding and efforts are on to nab them. The cops are also examining the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the mobile phone of the deceased.

As per reports, Sushree Sangita of Niali had married Prabin Kumar of Cuttack on January 20, 2021. She was working as a nurse in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, and staying with her in-laws in a rented house at Kalinga Nagar in the city.

Sushree’s father and brother said they received a phone call around 11 pm on Monday from her mother-in-law who asked them to immediately reach Bhubaneswar as Sushree was unwell and was being taken to hospital. When her family members reached here, she was admitted to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar where she was declared dead.

While Sangita’s in-laws claimed that she committed suicide by hanging herself, her parents alleged that she has been murdered for dowry and lodged an FIR with the Tamandoi police.
