The ones with buildings are in worst conditions
Gurundia block under Bonai sub-division of tribaldominated Sundargarh district is considered as a very backward block. While the Government promises to provide own building to each Anganwadi centre, especially in the tribal districts, the picture is somewhat different in Gurundia block.
According to sources, out of total 189 Anganwadi andmini Anganwadi centres in the block, more than 42 have no building and another seven centres are running with buildings in the worst conditions.
Though the construction work of Silipunj centre under Chandiposh has been completed, but the contractor has not yet handed over the building to the ICDS. Similarly, three years back, the money was sanctioned for Mushabira centre, but the work was stopped at the plinth level and the children are sitting under a tree.
The Satapantia centre work has not been completed for last two years and the children are sitting in the verandah of an abandoned building of a health centre. Similarly, the centres’ condition of Kundhediha, Kunjar, Soladega and Pankadihi etc are in very critical conditions. The local people apprehend that these ramshackle buildings may collapse at any time.
Most shocking is the risk lying in the preparation foods for the children under unhygienic conditions. Interestingly, in Kendughati village under Pankadihi Panchayat, the children are sitting in a small hamlet for attending their classes. Though the villagers have urged the supervisors and district Collector for construction of a new building, but it has fallen on the deaf ear of the authorities.
