More door metal detectors for Shreemandir

Director-General of Police RP Sharma said State police gives utmost priority on access control and security of the Shree Jagannath Temple and its periphery in Puri.

“Access control to the Shreemandir and its periphery security are the two important aspects that we are looking into at present,” Sharma told reporters here while speaking on security measures being taken for the 12th Century shrine.

The DGP said installation of more Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs) and deployment of additional security personnel are being planned now.

“Crowd management and frisking are always needed. We will examine if more DFMDs can be installed there. But that will require more apparatus and manpower,” Sharma explained.

It may be noted that a team of the National Security Guards (NSG) had visited the temple in August this year and reviewed security arrangements at the shrine.

The NSG team had suggested some measures to strengthen security in and around the temple.
