Moquim opposes move to open liquor shops

Cuttack-Barabati MLA Mohammad Moquim sat silent at his house here on Wednesday in protest against the Government’s decision to reopen the liquor shops in the State, especially in green zone Cuttack, at a time when the Covid-19 is still spreading its tentacles.

The Congress leader staged the protest a day after he released a video in which he opposed the decision and appealed to all people to stage silent protests in their respective houses. However, he urged all to obey the lockdown restrictions.

Alleging that the Chief Minister is making false claim of taking steps to check domestic violence, Moquim said the CM would not have ordered opening of liquor shops during this crucial time if he had any concern in that regard.

He said the inebriated ones would undoubtedly contribute to escalating the domestic violence in which women would suffer a lot.
