Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday launched a programme to distribute free mobile phones to Kissan Credit Cardholder women farmers at the State Secretariat here.

While the State Government has targeted to provide mobile phones to 41,000 women farmers, the Chief Minister launched the programme by distributing mobiles to 10 such farmers.

“The mobile phones will enable women farmers to have better access to agriculture-related information and the marketing facilities,” Patnaik said.

Besides, the Chief Minister inaugurated 100 new godowns constructed at Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) across the State through video-conferencing. The godowns having a total 41,400 metric tonne storing capacity would conserve fertilizers, seeds and harvested paddy. Among others, Cooperation and Excise Minister Dr Damodar Rout, Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy and Finance Minister Pradeep Amat were present.
