An unidentified miscreant looted Rs 5 lakh from a woman at Trinath Bazaar near Phulnakhara near here on Tuesday.
According to reports, the woman had withdrawn the cash from a bank near Pahala. While she was talking to a person keeping the cash bag on her scooter, the looter grabbed the bag and ran away.
The woman and her brother tried to chase and nab the miscreant but in vain. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera.Police launched an investigation into the incident and efforts were on to identify the criminal on the basis of the CCTV footage. In another incident of crime, unidentified miscreants hacked a vegetable trader and looted Rs 40,000 and a gold chain from his possession on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway on Monday night.
As per a complaint lodged by victim Niranjan Nayak (45) with the Pipili police, he was returning home from Bhubaneswar after selling vegetables when the miscreants hacked him with a sword at Teishpur at around 11 pm and snatched away the cash and gold chain from him.
Locals rescued him in a critical condition and rushed him to the Mangalpur Community Health Centre for treatment.Police started an investigation into the incident and detained a person for questioning in this connection.
