Six eminent personalities from different walks of life were conferred with honoris causa by Governor and Chancellor of universities Dr SC Jamir at the 48th convocation ceremony of the Utkal University here on Friday.
Renowned surgeon Dr Mukut Minz, CIPET Director General Sanjay Kumar Nayak, social activist Arudhanti Debi, Bengaluru-based National law University Vice-Chancellor R Venkat Rao and former Bhubaneswar AIIMS Director and current Delhi AIIMS Research Dean Ashok Mohapatra received the honours.
“I am really honoured to be conferred with honoris causa,” said Dr Minz, who had performed the kidney transplant surgery on Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj recently.
This apart, 84 meritorious students received gold medals while 214 students got PhDs.
Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) Chairman Subroto Bagchi delivered the convocation address.
Governor Jamir called upon the students to focus on study rather indulging in violence.
