Minister seeks Government-NGO partnership for land allocation

PNS

Revenue Minister Surjya Narayan Patro on Friday said the district administrations have been asked to requisition services of interested NGOs to expedite the land allocation process in their areas.

Addressing a workshop on ‘Innovative livelihood Approaches in Odisha’ jointly organised by the Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) and landesa (RDI) here, Patro urged for partnership between Government and NGOs in rolling out land allocation programmes to cover all eligible beneficiaries. He commended the efforts of landesa for its innovative approach of engaging the services of trained local literate youth as Community Resource Persons (CRPs) to expedite land allocation.

State Information Commissioner Jagadananda said the problem of poverty cannot be addressed without convergence of land, credit and market. A majority of poverty alleviation schemes have not had the desired effects in the State because of the absence of a household livelihood security plan at the micro level, he said. State Representative of DFID Supriya Patnaik stressed the importance of convergence of various programmes run by the Government and non-Government agencies for inclusive growth of the poorest of the poor.

Nearly 80% of the population faces exclusion in one form or the other, she said, calling for greater penetration of microfinance institutions in rural areas.
