The last day of the Monsoon Session of the State Assembly on Thursday witnessed pandemonium as Opposition BJP and Congress raised the mining scam issue and suicide of a youth in front of the Assembly.
On the other hand, BJD MLAs staged a dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Assembly premises over the issue of short supply of fertilisers by the Centre.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, the opposition members went to the Well and demanded a discussion on the mining scam and the death of a youth from Kujang, Dusmanta Das, who had earlier attempted suicide in front of the Assembly on Wednesday over the alleged denial of treatment to him under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).
The BJP MLAs also raised the demand for arrest BJD MLA Prashant Jagdev, who was suspended from the ruling party on Wednesday.
Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 11.30 am and later till 4 pm as the Opposition stuck to the demand for discussion on the mining scam.
Congress Legislature Party Leader Naransingha Mishra said the police administration has failed to discharge its duty as it could not save the life of the youth Dusmanta. “We had raised the issue of frequent suicide attempts in front of the Assembly during the previous sessions. The Chief Minister and the concerned Minister are answerable for this unfortunate incident,” Mishra said. Terming the death of Dusmanta as unfortunate, BJP MLA Mukesh Mahaling said the Government is responsible for this.

People do not have access to the health scheme, said he.Meanwhile, the BJD MLAs staged a dharna in front of Gandhi statue over farmers’ issues, including crop insurance and supply of fertilisers to the State by the Centre. The BJD has been demanding implementation of the MS Swaminathan Committee recommendations regarding the minimum support price (MSP) of all crops.
