Minerals-rich Keonjhar has topped in the Net District Domestic Product (NDDP) in Odisha.
Official data reveal that while the State’s annual average Net Domestic Product (NDP) per head has been recorded with Rs43,463, Keonjhar has been in the top of the list with an annual average NDDP per head of Rs92,270.
While the total NDP of the State is Rs1,83,521.51 crore by adding the NDDPs of all 30 districts, its annual average NDP per head is Rs43,463.
Keonjhar has the highest amount of NDDP followed by Sundargarh with Rs66,925 and Angul with Rs64,014. Other districts, which recorded annual average NDDP per head over Rs50,000, are Khordha, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Jajpur. Notably, these seven districts are leading in field of mining operation, industries and commerce.
Nabarangpur has the lowest annual average NDDP per head with only Rs24,165. Other districts, which have registered the NDDP below Rs30,000, are Nayagarh (Rs26,343), Malkangiri (Rs27,413), Subarnapur, Boudh, Kendrapada and Bhadra.
However, it is a matter of concern that in Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Angul, which have registered high in the NDDP per head, the number of people affected by malnutrition is recorded more.
Especially, large numbers of malnutrition-affected children are found in the villages in tribals-dominated Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts. Due to mining operation and trade, these districts have registered high NDDP per head.
While the total NDDP amount has been recorded Rs16,725.43 crore in Keonjhar, it is only Rs1,241.5 crore in Deogarh. Malkangiri and Subarnapur are on the decline in this sector. Cuttack, Ganjam, Khordha and Sundargarh districts are leading comparatively than others in the NDDP.
