Even as a 14-day lockdown took effect in the State on Wednesday, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain warned strict action against those involved in hoarding and black-marketing of essential commodities during the period.

The Minister instructed the Civil Supplies Officers (CSOs) of all 30 districts to personally visit the local markets to keep a check on the hoarders.“I have instructed all CSOs to visit the markets and send field officers to strictly monitor the situation.

Stern action will be taken against hoarders and black-marketers during the lockdown,” said the Minister.

It is to be noted here that people are allowed to buy essential items near their houses by walking to only 500-metre distance between 6 am and 12 noon during the lockdown.
