PNS

Higher Education Minister  Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi on Monday directed the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) authorities to conduct a thorough reevaluation of this year’s Plus Two answer-sheets in the next 10 days.

The Minister issued this direction after thousands of students and parents from across the State expressed resentments that the answer sheets have not been evaluated appropriately.

Briefing mediapersons here in the evening, the Minister said, “I have said earlier that the students will be provided with the photocopies of the papers. They have demanded re-evaluation by the CHSE within 48 hours after submitting the particulars in the re-addition form. If any student, after going through his/her answer-sheet, finds any discrepancy, the expert committee of the CHSE would take up necessary measures. Appropriate action would be taken if faulty evaluation is marked,” the Minister added.

“We have received several applications from students requesting re-evaluation of their papers. We have specifically asked the CHSE authorities to re-check the answer sheets that have been awarded with single digit marks,” Higher Education Department Additional Secretary Durga Prasad Sahu said.He also informed that the students seeking re-evaluation can contact the CHSE authorities with two helpline numbers,0674-2300907 and 0674-2300903, for further details.

Tensions ran high at the CHSE head office in the capital city here on Monday morning as hundreds of students and their guardians gheraoed senior officials, including CHSE Chairman Dr Basudev Chhatoi, protesting faulty evaluation of answer sheets. They also staged a dharna there. Some angry students even snatched certificates and mark sheets from some college teachers and set them on fire.

The students alleged that faulty evaluation has been done in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Sanskrit and Biology.“It is not correct to say that the evaluation was wrong since some students have secured 90 percent and above in these aforesaid subjects. However, I have received complaints from students who have secured poor marks. I will certainly look into it,” Chhatoi assured.
