Nuapada district Collector Jaykumar V ordered a verification of paddy and rice stocks of various rice mills of the district who had participated in custom milling operations of rice during the year 2013-14.

It is learnt that the millers of Nuapada district have not delivered the requisite quantity of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) to the Government against the paddy they had received from different procuring agencies during the agricultural seasons of 2013-14.

The District Civil Supply Officer (CSO) verified the stocks of the lingaraj Rice Industries of Jadamunda village on Sunday and found large discrepancies. A primary investigation revealed that the mill has a shortage of about 30,000 quintals of paddy in the stock. The mill had received a total of 52,000 quintals of paddy from Nuapada and Bargarh districts for custom milling – 35,000 quintals from Bargarh district during 2012-13 and 17,000 quintals from Nuapada district in 2013-14 season. The mill delivered rice for only 16,000 quintals.

“At present, the mill has a stock of only about 6,000 quintals in the mill, which reveals that there is a bungling of more than 30,000 quintals of paddy,” said the CSO.“Mill proprietor Janamitra Sharma was detained by the Komna police for further investigation,” the CSO added.District Collector Jaykumar V said that stocks of all the mills in the district would be verified and action would be taken against those who have violated the agreement.
