In order to keep it in the memory of the people, the State Government has decided to set up a Covid warrior memorial at the Biju Patnaik Park here. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the proposed memorial, which is first of its kind.
Health & Family Welfare ACS PK Mohapatra has written to Works Secretary Krishan Kumar about the decision and requested him to take up the assignment. The Works Department has been declared as the nodal agency for memorial construction. The memorial is to be set up as to recognise the sacrifices and services of the Covid warriors, some of whom even lost their lives fighting the pandemic. The Department of Works would engage architects to finalise the design and structure of the memorial, the cost of construction of which would be met out of budgetary provisions of the department. The Government has decided that the memorial shall be ready for its inauguration on the Independence Day on August 15, 2021.
