The Mayurbhanj Bandh, called by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) paralysed life throughout the district on Monday. The bandh, supported by the BJP and organisations like the Bhanja Sena, was organised to protest the bypassing of Mayurbhanj while announcing the setting up of three medical colleges in the State by the Union Government recently.
Government offices, shops and other business establishments downed their shutters while vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the National Highway-5, which passes through this district headquarters town. Train services were also disrupted with protesters picketing on the railway tracks.The bandh was also near total in Rairangpur, Karanjia,Udala and other places in the district.
