The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has put on fast track finalisation of a reputed organisation having expertise in healthcare services to run its state-of-the-art 500-bed Mahanadi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MIMSAR) at Talcher.
After the State Government expressed its inability to run the health institute, the MCL has taken initiative to invite reputed medical institutions for the purpose. “As entire infrastructure for the medical college and hospital is ready, the MCL has now constituted a high powered committee to complete the process for running the medial institute from next session,” said MCL CMD BN Shukla. Built at a cost of Rs 492 crore under the Corporate Social Responsibly (CSR), the MIMSAR will have 100 seats for MBBS, selections to which will be done through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Teaching is likely to commence with the session beginning 2020-21.
“Preparation of matrix for calling Expression of Interest (EoI) is in final stage and we will issue a notification for the same through leading newspapers and website soon,” the CMD said, adding that many organisations in healthcare services and business have shown interest in running the medical college. All facilities to run 19 MBBS departments are already in place with hostel accommodation for students and residential complex for faculty and nonteaching staff of the MIMSAR. The CMD wanted that more students from the coalfields areas join MBBS course at the MIMSAR.
“We want medical aspirants from areas under the Ib Valley and the Talcher coalfields prepare in advance through coaching so that they can secure admission in MIMSAR,” said Shukla.
