MCl employees on Monday morning put up a road blockade on National Highway-49 after a fellow employee died on the spot and another was critically injured in a road mishap in Brajrajnagar. Deceased Kuber Sai (50) of Pandripathar village under Jharsuguda Police Station limits along with one co-worker met with the accident when they were going to attend duty in a motorbike in Orient mine around 9 am.
They were crushed under the wheels of a speeding Scorpio car near mine 4. In protest against the incident, the MCl workers and a number of locals squatted on the highway demanding compensation and job to the deceased’s kin. As a result, the road traffic was badly hit and vehicles remained stranded on the road. Orient Area APM B Singh assured victim family members of adequate compensation, besides a job to the deceased’s family. After five hours, the road blockade was withdrawn.
