A massive demonstration was organised here on Friday on the call of the Jami Adhigrahan Birodhi Abhijan, Odisha protesting the anti-farmer and anti-people land Acquisition Bill and Ordinance-2015. Thousands of people mainly farmers, agricultural labourers, dalits and tribals, people from different anti-displacement movements, slum dwellers, peasants unions of CPI, CPI(M), CPI(Ml) liberation, CPI(Ml) Red Star, CPI(Ml) New Democracy, Chasi Mulia Sangha and various democratic and mass organisations participated in the demonstration and dharna.
Under the leadership of representatives of various political and social outfits Asish Kanungo, Suresh Panigrahi, Rebati Ballav Mohanty, Bhalachandra Sadangi, Srikant Mohanty, Prafulla Samantara , Rabi Das and Prasant Paikray, the rally began from railway station and reached at the lower PMG where a public meeting was organised by the joint coordination of these leaders.
leaders of different mass organisations including Abhya Sahu, Narayan Reddy, Sekh Abdul Wali, Sankar Sahu, Pramila Behera, Braja Tripathy, Balgopal Mishra, Kisan Pattnayak, Bhagaban Majhi, Sini Sai, Narendra Mohanty, Balaraj Gemel, Satya Banchhor and Tapan Mishra spoke regarding the anti-people nature of the land Acquisition Bill and Ordinance-2015 and called for massive democratic movement against this draconian bill. The leaders called upon the workers to spread the movement to all over the State by collecting 10 lakh signatures against the bill and arranging three-day protest programme in front of all District Collector office and block headquarters from April 25.
