The authorities of the Brahmapur railway station have become active to keep the station premises and platforms neat and clean. A cleaning and sanitation drive for the station and platforms is underway on a war footing.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the East Coast Railway Sailendra Kumar Singh visited the century-old railway station here on Tuesday to oversee the cleaning and sanitation work, which had
hitherto remained neglected and dirty.
Ironically, one higher officer of ECoR has been visiting this railway station continuously for last one week to review the on-going work.
There is a speculation that the Union Government is contemplating to allocate some budgetary provision for the cleaning, sanitation and beautification of various railway stations in the forthcoming Railway Budget. DRM Singh has reportedly expressed his satisfaction on the cleanliness of the station premises and the platforms, sources said.
It may be mentioned here that along with cleaning, all the repair and renovation work of the railway station is also being currently carried out which remained unattended since cyclone Phailin. The railway authorities have also targeted to complete the construction work of the Platform No.4 by August 15 this year, sources said.
To prevent such unwanted and random spitting inside the platform and railway premises, the authorities have initiated action against them by imposing fine, sources said. The Railways is going to install CCTV in Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack railway stations soon in the first phase as these stations are highly sensitive, he said. In the second phase, CCTV and metal detectors will be installed in Brahampur railway station along with the opening of a passenger-friendly canteen and repair and replacement of sign boards, Singh informed.
