She had never thought that she would get a life partner who will shower her with love and care and let her lead a happy conjugal life. For, after she was gang-raped she had reached a point of no return in her life.
However, thanks to a large hearted lad, who accepted her three years back after knowing about her past life, a gang-raped victim is lucky among thousands of her ilk, who has been leading a normal and happy married life.
If sources are to be believed, one Puja (name changed) of Palei village was allegedly gang raped by three youths of the neighbouring Narayanpada village at a school veranda of Bankimudei in 2008. later, she stayed at RIESWA, a short stay home, after the incident as her parents turned their backs to her.
A mason by profession, Punyasloka Das (name changed), of Ayenda village under Cuttack district, who was entrusted to construct a building near RIESWA, met with Puja. He was impressed with her behaviour. As a result, he decided to marry Puja.
He approached Superintendent of RIESWA Minati Moharana with the proposal in 2013. The Superintendent sought Puja’s consent and the proposal was finally accepted. Ever since, life turned all rosy for Puja.
Puja was leading a monotonous and depressed life. “My parents deserted me. I was so crest-fallen that earlier even I made an attempt to commit suicide. But Bada Maa (Minati) and other inmates of the short stay home rescued me. Now I’m happy with my new life,” stated Puja.
Meanwhile, Puja has been a mother of a one and a half years old girl child and is staying with her husband and in-laws in perfect peace.
“Punyasloka is unique and rarest person. I am lucky that I got such a good human as my husband. After the unfortunate incident, I had lost everything, even my parents. But today, I am happy as I have with me my husband, my child and in-laws,” said Puja.
According to Biraja Routray, a social activist, “When a girl is gang raped, everybody, including the parents, in most of the cases grow apathetic to her. But Punyasloka has set an example by marrying a gang raped girl.”
