The Maoists on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border areas have stated through an audiotape that the police are spreading terror in the Sunabeda region of Nuapada district of Odisha by torturing poor tribals without any reason.
“We are opposing the third phase of the Green Haunt operation of the Odisha Police and warning them to keep restraint from torturing people,” they have said.The statement alleged that police personnel have already beaten 55 people of Jalmadei, Khadang and Dhekunpani villages of the Sunabeda plateau. This is injustice and violation of human rights, the release said.
The Maoists have also protested the construction of roads in the plateau. “In the name of development, the administration is constructing only roads. The administration does not want development; rather its objective is to displace people from the area,” the audiotape further stated.
