If the attempt of the Maoists to set up a corridor through Jharkhand-Odisha-Chhattisgarh is checked, their activities in Odisha would come under control, said Director-General of the Central Reserve Police Prakash Mishra while speaking to the media here on Wednesday.

Mishra had come here to attend a review meeting on Maoist activities. "Sambalpur and Deogarh are important places for the Maoists for setting up of a Jharkhand-Odisha-Chhattisgarh corridor and the strategy to check the movement of Maoists in Deogarh and Sambalpur was discussed at the meeting," said Mishra.

He also said the Maoist activities have reduced in the Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundargarh region. However, Maoist movement has been found in Boudh, Angul and Kandhamal districts," he said. He also informed that a plan is afoot to shift the CRPF forces of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj to Kalahandi and Bargarh. "A discussion on the infrastructure in Bargarh and Kalahandi was also held at the meeting," said Mishra.

On the Maoist activities in Nuapada, he said, "The CRPF is in control of the Sunabeda area, which has resulted in a decrease in the Maoist activity there. However, the CRPF is now inching towards the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border which has witnessed heightened Maoist activities," he said.

On the archery camp at Sunabeda, he said, "The local youths were being imparted with training of archery there. Some of the youth are very talented. We are planning to absorb them and make effort to provide them opportunity to participate in national and international level events," he said.

The meeting was attended by CRPF IG Pyiyush Anand, Special DG Durga Prashad and DIG Operation Sambalpur PK Naik and Samabalpur SP Akhileswar Singh and Deogarh SP Ashis Singh.
