A 45-year-old farmer was killed by armed Maoists on Sunday suspecting him to be a police informer in Koraput district. He was identified as Siba Mandangi.
Sources said Mandingi and his son Kunja were ploughing in their agriculture field in Jogipalur village, when four armed Maoists suddenly swooped down on them. Three of them caught hold of Siba and the rest killed him by slitting his neck with an axe. Siba died on the spot. Eyewitness Kunja informed that about 30 Maoists were inside the Jogipaluru jungle when his father was attacked and killed. No FIR has been lodged in the police station pertaining to the incident, Narayanpatna police sources said.
Koraput SP Avnish Kumar denied that Mandangi was a police informer. He, however, said that the Maoists killed the poor farmer to terrorise the people.
