A Maoist couple surrendered before police in Malkangiri district on Thursday. They are Sukhdev and Rukmini. Official sources said the two rebels had been involved in several Maoist activities including the Chitrakonda attack, abduction of former Malkangiri Collector Vineel Krishna and explosion of an anti-landmine vehicle at MV-126 in the district.
The couple surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra. Sukhdev and Rukmini were carrying cash rewards of Rs 5 lakh and `4 lakh on their heads, respectively. While Sukhdev was the area commander of the Kalimela division, Rukmini was the commander of the Baipariguda division of the banned Maoist outfit, reports added.
