A day after police engaged Maoists in a two-hour-long gun battle, they recovered some ammunition and other articles from a Maoist camp at Chandili forest reserve under the lathore police station in the district on Sunday.
A live grenade, five kit bags, 12 containers and other articles were recovered from the camp that was busted hours after a massive combing operation in the region, which started after the Maoists fled from the spot following a fierce exchange of fire.
Acting on a tipoff, a joint team of District Voluntary Forces (DVF) and the CRPF had swooped down on the forest area to trace the Maoists’ hideout on Saturday.
“Our operation is still on but we have been able to bust the hideout and seized ammunition including a live grenade with detonator. We are trying to ascertain whether there have been any casualties or not from the side of rebels,” said Balangir district SP K Subramani.
