The Maoists are suspected to have put up a banner at Nilabadi under Bandhugaan block in the district threatening the son of a local ward member to eliminate him.
The banner on the gate of Nilabadi panchayat office in the name of Koraput-Srikakulam division of CPI (Maoist), also threatened the PRI members to stop the panchayat’s welfare projects.
“ Asish Senapati (son of ward member) is carrying out liquor trade and ruining the life of innocent tribals. Despite knowing his business, the sarpanch has awarded him contracts. If he does not give up the works, we would kill him”, the banner stated.
It also called upon the people to strongly protest the liquor trade in the area.
The locals suspect a Maoist hand in the incident. The text on the banners ends with ‘CPI (Maoist)’, giving an impression that it was put by the rebels.
The police after reaching the spot removed the banner and investigating whether it was put up by the Red rebels or it is the handiwork of some mischief-mongers.
