'Maoist acts end in Gajapati as Panda arrested'

PNS

Gajapati Superintendent of Police (SP) Charan Singh Meena has claimed that the Maoist activities in the district have come to an end with the arrest of most wanted Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda on July 18 in Bramhapur.

The SP told The Pioneer that Gajapati was a major operational zone of Panda and as many as six murder cases are pending against him in the district.

“Sabyasachi Panda was active in areas under Mohana, R Udyagiri and Nuagada blocks. Nearly 30 cases are pending against him in the Adaba, Mohana and

R Udyagiri courts,” said Meena.

The SP, however, stated that the district police administration and the intelligence wing are keeping a close watch on movements of Maoists.

“Our main focus is on preventing entry of Maoists of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand,” said the SP, adding that the police administration is now developing a better public relation with common people to avoid any Maoist-related eventuality.
