Maoist activities on the rise in K'handi, K'mal

On his maiden visit to Rourkela, CRPF Director General Prakash Mishra on Thursday said Maoist activities have increased in Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.

Mishra, who was here to review anti-Maoist operations, however, said additional Central forces can’t be deployed in these regions to tame the Red rebels’ activities. “We know there is a demand from the State Government for more forces. But in the current scenario, it would not be possible to provide more forces for Odisha,” Mishra said.

He at the same time expressed his satisfaction over anti-Maoist operations in Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Mishra said the Maoists are again active to reestablish their presence in the Saranda jungle. But their move would be handled strongly, he said. He said that in one and a half months, 12 Maoists have been gunned down and many were arrested in Chhattisgarh.

In Chhattisgarh, a Development Hub is to be established soon. If the Odisha Government gives a proposal in this regard then it would be taken into consideration, said Mishra.
