While a number of students continue to languish inside bunkers, mainly at east Ukraine, their parents in Rourkela have rued the apathy of the Government for their early rescue.
"With war continuing and the blasts heard in regular intervals at Kharkiv area, the students of Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) have been forced to stay in bunkers for last five days," said Sudhanya Jena, an RSP employee, whose daughter Saloni Jena is a fifth year student of medical course in KNMU.
"Under these circumstances, the Government has advised the Indian students to reach to the border areas of countries like Poland and Romania etc on their own arrangements. But it is not a risk free affair," Jena said.
"They have to travel about 1,500 to 1,600 km to reach to the border, which is not possible in the present scenario, particularly when the blasts are continuing in that locality," Jena added.
Parents also expressed concern for those students who have reached Romania/Poland border on their own, since they have been left stranded under open roof in a temperature of less than five degrees, for getting their turn to cross the border. "Instead of asking the students to wait under open sky, the Government should make arrangement of temporary shelter in the land of neighbouring countries like Polland and Romania, from where they can be evacuated safely as per their turn," said PK Samal, father of Pratikhya Samal, who is a student of first year medical course in KNMU.
The parents claimed that the stranded Indian students are increasingly facing a crisis of food and water in their area and they are not getting any support from anywhere now.
