Many Brahamapur civic body projects in limbo

PNS

A number of projects of the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) are virtually in a limbo. While tenders for some big projects have been completed, there is s need for retendering of some other projects. This has led to apprehensions of delay in completion of the projects within the stipulated timeframe.

Presently, the population of the city is 4 lakh. With the increase in population, the problems in the city have spiraled.  Sanitation and garbage disposal has become one of the major challenges for the BMC. While the Swachh Bharat Abhijan is being implemented, the Ama Souchalaya scheme has slowed down.

Among the most-awaited projects is the waste management project. Retendering for waste management has been done, but for the last two years, a hide and seek game is being played. Everyday 120 tonnes of waste is being generated in the city. There is a need for the waste to be treated through a chemical process.

The tender process for hoardings is pending for the last three years.

The tender for renovation of Ramlingam Tank has been completed but still there is no progress. Though estimate of Rs 20 crore funds for the renovation of ponds in the city has been done, the work for the same has not begun.

Besides, the ODRP scheme implemented with the help of the World Bank has been delayed the most. Under the scheme, proposals for the development of infrastructure of slums, widening and beautification of roads and master plans for drainage Detailed Project Report (DPR) have been repeatedly rejected by the World Bank.

After an IAS officer Nikhil Pawan Kalyan took charge as BMC Municipal Commissioner, an overall review of the municipality’s functioning was done. Kalyan said very soon a decision on the mega projects would be taken.
