The Hemagiri police in Sundargarh district on Friday arrested and court-forwarded a man and his son for allegedly killing a relative couple on Wednesday night.
Sources said one Bhima Bariha (45) and his nephew (brother’s son) Dayanidhi Bariha of Jhulenbar village under the Hemagri police station had disputes over some land. While Bhima and his wife Sukmati were returning home around 8 pm on Wednesday, Dayanidhi and his son Kailash met them on the way and held discussions and subsequently quarreled on the land issue. In a fit of rage, Dayanidhi picked up a wood log and hit Bhima’s head and Kailash picked up a bamboo stick and hit Sukmati’s head. Both Bhima and Sukmati died on the spot.
Being informed by a Ward Member of the village, a team of Hemagiri police led by Sub Inspector B Nayak along with a scientific team visited the spot and seized the bodies on Thursday morning.
