A man allegedly killed his wife by setting her on fire and later attempted to end his life near Nuapur village under the Khantapada police station in the district on Saturday.
Sources said the deceased Sabitri Malik (40) had gone to the farmland of his husband Nilambar (45) carrying food for him. But due to some reason a heated argument ensued between the two, following which Nilambar in a fit of rage set Sabitri on fire.
She was charred to death at the spot. Later, Nilambar tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide.
