It now seems it isn't safe to keep cash in the Andhra Bank. This has come to light on Wednesday when one Kishore Behera,  a resident of Azadbasti of the Joda Municipality who has a savings account in the bank's Joda branch, found his account had been debited of cash about which he didn't know.

Behera had gone to withdraw cash for purchase of a cycle for his daughter; but to his great dismay, he was denied withdrawal by bank officials saying that there was no balance in his account.

Then he reported the matter to Branch Manager, who revealed that there had been frequent fraudulent withdrawals from his account  without his knowledge.

As on January 22, there was a cash balance of Rs 1, 93, 000 in Behera’s account; but on Wednesday, he saw that there was a balance of Rs 965.

Then, the victim lodged an FIR in the local police station.

When contacted, Joda PS IIC Raisen Murnu said that prima facie, it seemed that somebody had withdrawn the money by using the mobile number of the account holder, but rest would be known after a detailed inquiry.
