A viral video of the marriage of a man in a police outpost, that too without getting a divorce from his first wife, has triggered outrage in Kalahandi district.

The incident occurred at the Borda police outpost in the district in the presence of police officials. The couple exchanged garlands in the presence of the outpost in-charge and other officials.

The local have alleged the connivance of the cops in the incident, as the man’s first wife had lodged a case against her husband at the same police outpost.

Sources said one Santosh Panigrahi of Sapasilet village had married Rajesh Kar’s daughter Shraddhanjali of Kesinga five years back as per Hindu rituals.

While the couple has a four-year-old child and Shraddhanjali is pregnant again,

In these circumstances, Santosh got married to another woman from a different caste.

Shraddhanjali and her in-laws, after getting information about the incident had filed a case at the Borda police outpost. But as per their allegations, police took no action.

Later, family members managed to trace Santosh and handed him and the other woman to police.

While assuring needful action and a probe into the matter, Shraddhanjali had been asked to return home. However, Santosh exchanged vows with the other woman at the outpost the same night in presence of the police.

The incident triggered deep resentment in the area as police not only allowed the illegal act without even informing the man’s first wife and kin but also supported it.

Later, Shraddhanjali and family approached the Kalahandi SP Abilash G and apprised him of the matter. The SP expressed his displeasure over the incident and said appropriate action would be taken as per law.
