PNS

A case has come to light in which a Brahmapur man was duped of Rs 1.27 lakh by cyber fraudsters while trying to buy a T-shirt online.

Sources said the victim identified as Lakshmi Narayan Panda, a resident of Khoda Singh Ramkrushna Nagar in the city had ordered a shirt from an e-commerce site known as formal button.com. On May 18, he received his order through Blue Dart courier.

However, it was not the T-shirt he had ordered.

As Panda did not get the shirt he had ordered, he searched for the customer care number of that e-commerce site to return the order. When he got the number and called there was no response. The next day, he got a call from the customer care number. The custom care agent asked Panda to download anydesk app.

When Panda downloaded the app, the customer care agent took the details from the victim and siphoned off Rs 1.27 lakh from his bank account.

However, Panda did not realise he was cheated instantly. The fraud came to the fore after a few days when Panda verified his account and found his bank account debited of Rs 1.27 lakh.
