In a gruesome incident, a man hacked his brother-in-law to death with a billhook over a family dispute at Bidyabandh village under the Town police station on Sunday.
The accused identified as Rudra Narayan Nayak fled from the spot following the incident. His wife and mother-in-law also sustained grievous injuries in his assault.
Police have seized the body of deceased and initiated a probe into the incident. The injured were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Though the reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, the preliminary probe suggested that ‘family feud’ might be the motive behind the crime.
“Rudra, who was staying at his in-laws house, heinously killed his brother-in-law Nagesh Rout with a bill hook over a family dispute. His wife and mother-in-law were also injured while trying to come to Nagesh’s rescue,” said Town PS IIC Malay Nayak.
“The initial probe suggested that the Rudra committed the crime to take revenge against his brother-in-law,” Nayak said.
A forensic team has reached the spot to gather evidence. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, who is at large, he said.
