One Sudura Naik (55) of Patala village under the Champua Forest Range in Keonjhar district was killed in an elephant attack on Thursday night. Sudura was trampled to death by an elephant while the villagers were trying to drive away a herd of jumbos, who had entered the village and damaged many crops and houses in the night.
On Friday morning, hundreds of villagers blocked the Champua road near Rajia demanding Rs 3 lakh as compensation and a job for one of the family members of Sudura.
The road blockade was called off, when the local Forest Ranger, Keonjhar Assistant Conservator of Forests, Champua police Inspector and Tehsildar assured the villagers to give compensation along with a job to a member of the deceased.
