A man was murdered by his neighbour over a property dispute at Mali Sahi village under the Itamati police limits in Nayagarh district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to reports, the dispute had erupted between Khetrabasi Mohapatra and his neighbour Jagabandhu Mohapatra on Tuesday evening. Khetrabasi had filed a complaint in this regard with the Itamati police, following which the issue was resolved in the presence of police and some locals.
However, the dispute resurfaced between the two; and Jagabandhu hacked Khetrabasi to death after chasing the latter on the village road at around 3 am. Police have started investigation into the incident and detained the accused for questioning.
