Rajkishore Mohapatra (55), a resident of Kurunti village, on Monday staged a hunger strike in front of the SBI office of Rajnagar branch demanding refund of `33,000 that was deducted from his account from a Pattamundai-based defective ATM.

According to Mohapatra, on April 27, he had gone to withdraw money from his account at an ATM counter of Pattamundai. He later made an attempt to withdraw `8,000 from his account. What shocked him there was while he failed to collect `8,000 from the ATM, an SMS came to his mobile that `33,000 was deducted from his account. Though he later sought help at the SBI office of Rajnagar branch, but the bank authority failed to address his grievance.

This finally convinced Mohapatra to resort to a hunger strike.

When contacted, SBI Rajnagar branch manager Rabindra Pradhan stated that the complaint of Mohapatra has been thoroughly inquired and it has found from the footage that a miscreant slyly managed to withdraw the amount. As a result, he advised Mohapatra to lodge an FIR with the police.
