A man hacked his wife to death and later consumed poison over a family dispute at Antara village under the Simulia police station in Baleswar district on Thursday.Later, he was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The accused identified as Manoranjan Das (40) had a heated argument with his wife Jasoda over some matter. But when his wife left home for her parents’ house in Bhadak along with their 14-year- old daughter, Manoranjan lost his cool.
He chased and intercepted the duo while they were walking through a paddy field and asked his wife to leave the daughter with him. When she refused, he attacked her with a chopper, killing her on the spot.
However, the daughter fled from the spot and informed some villagers about the incident. But when they searched for Manoranjan he was found lying in a drain.
After ascertaining that he had consumed poison they rushed him to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital. The police after sending the body for postmortem have begun an investigation with the help of a forensic team, reports said.
