The Jeypore Fast Track Court in Koraput district on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to undergo 38 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl.
The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 40,000 on the convict identified as Sushant Kandapan of Sana Gadabalasa Colony under the Bandhu Gaon police station of the district.
Besides, the court also ordered a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim.
According to the case registered in 2017, the victim was returning home from tuition when Sushant intercepted her on the way and assaulted her before trying to kidnap her. As the victim shouted for help, a large crowd gathered and Sushant managed to flee from the spot.
Later, in revenge, Sushant abducted her and took her to jungle where he raped her. Apart from taking pictures of the victim, he had made a video using those pictures. Later, he raped her several times blackmailing her wit those pictures, He had also threatened to throw acid on her if she matter to her parents.
The Judge convicted Sushant after hearing the statement of 13 witnesses.
